Hello, stumbled upon this forum tonight! I currently live out in the boonies (menlo/greenfield area) but will probably making the move back to Ames soon. Anyway here are my Nissans... A 1986 Nissan 300ZX and I also have a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder I have had my Z for about 4 years now and am slowly working on it. Plans are just to restore it and make it look/run well. I picked up the pathy this December. I had been wanting one for a while and jumped at a cheap one. So far I have replaced the O2 sensor and started working on regular maintenance that has been neglected by previous owners. Also I am going to be buying new tires for it soon. I got it for 1000 and only have put 150 into it so far and have been dd it the past couple of months with no issues.

For the pathy I have a new caliper for the rear on the way. I will probably be buying some Yokohama Geolanders for it within a week or two. Once the weather warms up I will be working on fixing rust issues... and getting inventive with some bedliner/undercoating! My Z is currently in the garage but starts like a champ whenever I am playing around in the garage. Short list for stuff to work on. Front pads and rotors, new shocks/struts, finding a wiring harness to put the stock radio I have in, and resealing taillights and quarter panel windows. Both vehicles have the VG30E in them! the Z has roughly 152K miles on it and the Pathfinder has 193K on it.

AHHH loving the 50's! Got out my Z to recharge the battery, change the oil, and put on a new fuel filter! I have to say that is the cleanest oil I have ever changed! I got to thinking and I'm pretty sure I only drove my Z about 500 miles or so last year. No good! I may have to save the oil filter because it looks new (don't even know why I bothered to change the filter). I found the fuel filter not clogged when I got it off of there... but I hadn't replaced it since I bought the car so I figured I might as well. By the way this is a great example of the crap I put up with from the previous owner... Rather than screwing the clamp closed on the metal bit that holds the fuel filter in place... they just wrapped tape around it and wedged the filter in there. At least my Z still had the holder in there, it was missing from my pathy when I got it! Safety first! Jumped the Z because I never remember to remove the battery when I park it for the winter. VG30 brothers! Next up on the list! new rear caliper on the pathy spark plugs and wires for the Z New tranny filters for both New differential fluid in both Figure out why my Z's fan wobbles and fix it.

Best advice on the fan wobble is water pump bearings.
So water pump is on the way!
Loving Rockauto Sooooooo much! Better parts than oreilly's for less money!

Nice job cleaning up the ghetto work from the prior owner. I agree on Rock Auto, love them. I just bought new sway bar end links for the G35 and paid about half price for oem parts.

rockauto is the shiz, i bought my clutch kit from them at a great price and the quality was good. I look to them for basically everything now instead of orileys or autozone. Except oil, just go to orileys. Im particular about what i throw into the altima.

Remus, I read your posts at work the other day, but the photos wouldn't load. Good thing I remembered to come back! Your Z looks good and I've always been fond of both the early and late model 300ZX's. Interesting, I didn't realize the '95 Pathfinder was the last year of the "hardbody" style before the new style in '96. I just assumed the slotted hood ended for the Pathfinder the same year they ended for the pickups, which was 1993. I also like your Pathfinder too! It has the same body lines as my '97 Nissan Pickup and they'll run forever. I really wanted the king-cab, V6, 4-wheel drive model when I bought my truck new, but I couldn't afford it. Anyway, welcome to the board and thanks for sharing the photos! Robert S.

Robert,
Once you see my Z in person it actually has a good amount of rust that I will have to deal with. Wheel wells and some rust bubbles etc. Plus it has a little damage on the drivers side fender. I just try to hide it in pictures!
And yes the 95 was the last year of that style then they changed a lot on them and went to the vg33. In 94 there was a remodel on the interior though. So I have a rounded dash and the buttons in different locations than most of them out there.

Ben, I did notice the slight body on the Z, but the rust isn't as noticeable in the photos. Do you know if the car was originally purchased in Iowa or somewhere out of state? My Z has all of the typical Midwest rust because it spent all of it's life in Peoria, well except for a few trip to California with the original owner. We could play a little game entitled, "I bet my Z's got more rust than yours". In '94 the interior of the pickups were also redesigned from the square dash to the rounder, more sleek look. Way back in the old days, I had a friend who owned a '93 with the older interior and my brother bought a '94 new. It's been years since he owned that truck, so I don't know if it's still on the road. My '97 is still stock with 162k miles and still runs good. It has some minor blemishes on the body, but no rust since I lived in the South when I bought it. So, when do you plan to move back to Ames? No clue where my z was originally purchased. It isn't a canadian model though. It's underside is pretty 'soft' so I have to watch where I try to jack it up. I think you may win the most rust unless all of that is surface rust lol! I bought it from a used dealer in Adel and the previous owner was from Waukee.
My pathfinder has 195k currently... but it has a the smaller tire of the stock sizes even though it originally had the larger of the 2. So it doesn't have quite that many miles... as they are stacking onto the odometer a little faster than they should.
I plan to move to Ames in October unless something changes that. I got a seasonal job in Mount Ayr until then. So I get to move almost all the way to Missouri and when that position is over I will figure out what is next!

Ben, Oh it's real rust! The Z has holes in the front frame rails, floor pans, front fenders, front inner fenders, hood, rocker panels, rear quarters, rear inner fenders, and oddly enough the rear corners below the taillights. I think the rust damage on the rear corners started after water (and salt) got into the rear inner fenders. Surprisingly, the battery tray, rear deck, and spare tire look great! I took a few photos of the rust I swept up from the front rockers. I need to post those sometime. Regardless of what the talking heads on tv say, our economy is still recovering from the recession, so we should be thankful for any job we have now! Yes, I had to use Google to find out where Mount Ayr is. Robert S.

HAHAHA Real Rust indeed! I do not envy the amount of time that will take!
My spare tire area is not nearly as bad as some pictures of other cars. But it is just enough that the fuel door release cable quit functioning... It got to the point that I had to jimmy the door open with a credit card every time I needed gas. The little tab on the door finally had enough and snapped off. Made me happy though because I removed the spring and the door sits flush without opening until I push on the front edge.
I also will need to reseal my quarter panel windows and taillights. They let in tons of water! I will probably get new taillights when that stage comes along. The P.O. tried to spray pain the taillights black. But could not figure out how to remove them from the vehicle. Needless to say broke the taillights where they bolt on and on the edges from prying at them. Darn Butyl tape! Last time I ran my car through the auto-car wash the taillights where still half full of water by the time I got home... 10 miles away!

UPDATES!
So for the Z... partially done changing spark plugs. aaaand partially have everything dismantled to remove the water pump. I will finish spark plugs tomorrow, drain the coolant, and get the water pump out!
Hopefully I can get the new one in and everything reassembled before my back kills me for leaning/laying over my Z!
On the pathfinder I changed out the front tires for better condition used ones that I got for free. And balanced all of the wheels... I don't think the previous owner bothered having them balanced when they got the tires. No tire weights at all! Still need to work on the brakes, damn things are still mushy and I am tired of bleeding them over and over!

UPDATE! ;D So spark plugs changed Sunday... only semi broke one ratchet doing that... Everything else was mostly torn apart until tonight! I had 1 bolt left in the lower timing belt cover to remove and the 1 bolt holding on the crankshaft pulley. I had been messing with it all week... and I finally broke down and bought an impact today. Got one for 60 bucks and it looks like fairly decent quality. Unfortunately my compressor is a little too small for the impact, but my grandpas isn't! The bolt came right out... then I had to jerry rig my steering wheel puller with some random bolts and "washers" to be able to pull it. These are my thoughts once it was off... After that it was quick to remove the last bolt and the water pump. And when someone says... a little fluid will come out. Holy $#%@ that was a lot of fluid! Reassembly is started and hopefully will be finished tomorrow night. It shouldn't take too long. Right now it looks like the Z will make it on Saturday... no promises though!

I held off posting this yesterday... until I had some pictures. But, I am back down to a one nissan household.
I was driving home from a buddies house on Saturday night. And fell asleep while driving and I rolled the pathfinder. Going to probably be dealing with the aftermath for a little while but I got a lot settled all ready. I had hit a culvert when I went into the ditch and it rolled I got a concussion and a few scratches. My phone was out of power and I started walking somewhere. And was completely turned around. All things considered I got lucky. Pretty upset about my pathy but I don't think I would have been in as good of shape had I been in the Z. You can see where the culvert hit on the lower edge of the driver door.

So my phone is not cooperating with posting pictures. I did get 2 uploaded to photobucket and have more on my phone. My usename on there is also remus92 if you want to see those 2 pics that did upload.
I had just fixed the front brakes that morning too.... no good.

I have no idea how I was not hurt worse. There is not a lot of room for headspace anymore and it stopped upside down.and looking at it did one full roll. But I don't rememberanything after swerving until I was standing outside the vehicle and saw it was upside down. Plus it threw things out like a hitch reciever and subwoofer... glad that stuff ejected rather than stayed in with me.

Ben, Sorry you experienced this wreck and really glad that you're okay! In my younger days I used to take long road trips by myself and I know a few times I've fallen asleep momentarily. On the bright side, the Pathfinder looks more aerodynamic now! Robert S.
